Shawn Michaels is one of the very few legends that has remained true to his word when he claimed he was retiring for good.

Naturally, superstars do have that itch to wear the tights again and give it another go, but The Heartbreak Kid is clearly someone who knows how to protect his legacy.

ONE MORE MATCH

So, as you can imagine, fans were disappointed when the fan-made Royal Rumble poster suggesting a dream match between Michaels and AJ Styles was in the works was shot down by the former DX member.

What came as an even bigger surprise, though, was when Michaels revealed earlier this week that he could finally be tempted to come back to have one more match.

Despite warning fans that they wouldn't get Michaels in his prime, he did claim that it would only be for one match and not an entire storyline, citing Johnny Gargano, Daniel Bryan and The Phenomenal One as potential opponents he'd have liked to face.

Realistically, though, he's admitted a tag team match with Triple H seems the likely option.

Again, hearing Michaels make those comments came as a welcomed surprise as he's never said anything like that before. Now, though, The Game has revealed why Michaels has that itch and is considered one more match.

It's all because of NXT.

NXT

Triple H revealed that Michaels has been in two minds over a return for the past few years, but he's enthusiastic about it now because he's working closely with the emerging talent on NXT.

According to Sky Sports, he said: "One thing I know about Shawn is that only he will know. He's gone back and forth on this a million times I think.

"But I think being involved with the Performance Center and being in NXT, there's something about these young guys and girls being hungry and driven that reinvigorates everybody that goes down there.

"Guys who have been in the business a long time say being around that talent relights their fire and the passion you have for this when you first start.

"I think that's where he is and what has made him think differently about this."

A lot of fans will already be aware that Michaels is hands-on with the NXT stars.

In fact, it was revealed earlier this year that he had picked Velveteen Dream as his protege with the latter impressing many fans and superstars.

They will certainly benefit from having him around, but it's no surprise why fans are now saying they want Michaels to keep his legacy intact and instead help form the new generation of stars.
