Whenever the dark horses at Russia 2018 are talked about, Uruguay are usually somewhere in the mix. There's a tremendous amount of goodwill towards boss Oscar Tabarez, who despite his battle with illness has managed his nation in more games than any other international manager. The likes of Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani ought to make La Celeste a potent threat up front, while in defence they boast the rare fortune of being able to align two centre-backs who play with each other every week in La Liga.José Giménez and Diego Godin both played a key role in the 1-0 win over Egypt on Friday, even if as a whole, Uruguay will need to be much better if they are to go far in the World Cup.Giménez, of course, scored a towering header to win the game in the last minute of normal time. At the other end of the pitch, Godin put on an absolute masterclass in the art of defending."He's the professor of defending," Martin Keown mused as he commentated for the BBC.Nonetheless, one of his best moments came when he chose to maraud forward, tearing away from Arsenal's Mohamed Elneny.

What is that touch?!

It would have been the perfect run and summed up why for many, the veteran defender was man of the match - but it was ruined entirely by Giorgian De Arrascaeta, who produced one of the worst first touches you'll see:

Dear, oh dear. Godin had covered a ridiculous amount of ground, only for it all to go to waste.

Plenty of fans on Twitter felt sorry for him and were frankly appalled by De Arrascaeta's touch:

More important, though, were Godin's exploits in defence as he ensured Egypt, missing Premier League Golden Boot winner Mo Salah, couldn't find a way through.

Perhaps things would have been different had the Liverpool forward been fully fit, but he is still nursing the shoulder injury he sustained at the hands of Sergio Ramos less than a month ago.
