The footballing world was treated to some magnificent football on Friday. The second day of the World Cup was filled with excitement in each of the three games.Although Egypt vs Uruguay and Iran vs Morocco were not the greatest affairs in quality, late goals in both games, scored by Uruguay and Iran, ensured there was no shortage of drama. And then Portugal vs Spain happened. Not only was it was billed to be the tie of the day, it was also touted as the match-up of the group stages. And it did not disappoint, ending in a 3-3 draw.It was Cristiano Ronaldo who ensured he would steal the spotlight - not for the first time - as his hat-trick ensured his side would emerge with a share of the spoils. The last, an unstoppable free-kick in the 88th minute, was undoubtedly the pick of the bunch. The whole world seemed to be praising the mercurial Portuguese forward for his efforts.Landon Donovan was one, and he produced one of the tweets of the night in reaction to Ronaldo's hat-trick.The former U.S.A international scored five World Cup goals in his career. Prior to tonight, Ronaldo only had three. And Donovan tweeted he was no longer a better player than Ronaldo after he overtook his tally in the world's biggest tournament."Two hours ago, I had more career World Cup goals than Ronaldo, clearly making me the better player," he tweeted. "Then he scored a hat trick."That's quality.Unfortunately, Donovan just *had* to concede that Ronaldo is now a better player than he was. Poor guy.Football fans absolutely loved the former Everton player's tweet, which has racked up over 14,000 likes at the time of writing.

Jose Mourinho was much more serious in his praise of Cristiano Ronaldo.

"He’s got what I used to call the feeling of the game, the specific intelligence of playing football," Mourinho told Russia Today, per the Metro.

"He knows that the team is in trouble, he knows the team is not creating, he’s frustrated on the pitch, nobody could see Portugal scoring and he knows one possibility of scoring is set plays.

"His record lately is not the best for the number of free-kicks he takes for club and national team, not scoring as much as he used to for Manchester United and the first years at Real.

"But this one is critical and crucial. It’s what can affect the team, the confidence, the next match, the rivalry, what it means for Portuguese people.

"And he has this little touch, this little extra feeling, and the goal is fantastic. The wall is correct, the goalkeeper is correct, but the flight of the ball is impossible to save. Top corner.

"He knew it was the last chance and that’s what I really admire. There are players for some matches, there are players for every matches and there are players for special matches."
