West Ham are on the verge of agreeing a deal for Marseille midfielder Benoit Cheyrou, according to reports in France.

And the Hammers want to couple that signing with snapping up Everton frontman Yakubu as they prepare for life after Carlton Cole.

Cheyrou, whose brother Bruno played for Liverpool, is up for grabs after being deemed surplus to requirements in France and would love to be a success in the league his sibling failed in.

The Irons have already brought in five players this summer as Avram Grant looks to pull the club away from yet another relegation dogfight.

France Football claim that talks are “very well advanced, and are close to being completed this week.”

Meanwhile Grant has revived the club’s interest in Yakubu, with reports claiming he has made an offer for the Nigerian.

West Ham have already had a £7 million bid rejected but Everton have found alternatives that will be appealing.
