It wasn’t the best start to the 2018 World Cup for Argentina.Lionel Messi and co. were held to a 1-1 draw by Iceland and didn’t look like a side that’s capable of going on the way in this competition. They did have the perfect opportunity to win the match, though.Argentina were awarded a penalty with 25 minutes remaining.Messi stood over it but his poor spot-kick was saved by Hannes Halldorsson.Sam Matterface - the ITV commentator - rather brilliantly dubbed it the ‘Hand of Cod’.In the stands watching was the player that produced the infamous ‘Hand of God’ against England back in 1986.Yes, Diego Maradona was watching on as Messi missed the chance to give Argentina a winning start. However, Maradona was involved in a very controversial incident during the game, it seems.BBC journalist Jacqui Oatley was sitting near Maradona and posted a couple of videos of him taking photos with fans - with a cigar in his mouth.

WHAT MARADONA DID DURING THE MATCH

However, she also noticed a shocking gesture he made to some South Korean fans.

Oatley tweeted: “Maradona not so cool now. Some South Korea fans just shouted “Diego” and he obliged with a smile, kiss and wave. Then pulled his eyes to the side in a clearly racist gesture. All of us who saw it are stunned.”

While it may not have done maliciously, it’s pretty awful behaviour from Maradona.

Another journalist, Seema Jaswal, backed up Oatley’s claims.

“I’m sat right next to Jacqui and saw Maradona’s gesture. He should know better. The lads filming him were so excited to get a picture of him and that was his response. Very Disappointing.”

Jaswal is right - that is very disappointing.
