There's no doubt that in the world of combat sports, one of the biggest names the industry has ever seen is Brock Lesnar.
Lesnar, who earned his claim to fame after dominating the professional wrestling world, made the transition into mixed martial arts (MMA) and was an instant top contender due to his freakish size, strength and amateur wrestling background.
He would find himself challenging for a UFC heavyweight title and won it after defeating Randy Couture. Of course, his title reign would soon come to an end after a young Cain Velasquez stepped up to the plate.
After a follow-up loss to Dutch striker Alistair Overeem, Lesnar would retire from mixed martial arts (MMA) competition and soon return to professional wrestling.
A Brief Return
In 2016, Lesnar, who was still under contract with WWE, returned to the UFC for a one-off fight against Mark Hunt to co-main event the UFC 200 pay-per-view (PPV).
He would win that bout via unanimous decision after putting on a grappling clinic against the knockout artist. Soon after the win, however, it was revealed that Lesnar tested positive for a banned substance by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).
Should Lesnar decide to return to the Octagon, he would need to re-enter the USADA drug testing pool and deliver six months worth of clean testing.
That could very well be a possibility. Lesnar has expressed interest in returning to the UFC soon, and rumor has it that he's gearing up to do exactly that in the next few months.
The Beast is currently the Universal Champion over in WWE, but it's expected he'll drop that title at the upcoming SummerSlam PPV.
Superfight On The Horizon?
After that, it's possible Lesnar could return to the cage as early as the UFC's end of the year card in December. He could also hold out a bit longer and compete in early 2019.
Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that there are currently negotiations underway to have Lesnar make an appearance at the UFC 226 PPV next month in Las Vegas.
The main event of that card is a UFC heavyweight championship match between Stipe Miocic and UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier.
It's very possible that Lesnar confronts the winner of that fight and challenges them for the heavyweight throne next.
Also, it's possible a superfight between Lesnar and Jon Jones could be announced at the event as well. This would be difficult, however, as Jones has some issues with the USADA that he needs to iron out.
Should Cormier win, he has expressed a great deal of interest in fighting Lesnar and is a huge professional wrestling fan. A fight against Miocic would also be interesting, as it provides an interesting match-up for both men.
