Argentina and Lionel Messi were dealt a big blow as they drew 1-1 to Iceland in their first 2018 World Cup match. The defining moment of the Group game came in the 64th-minute as Jorge Sampaoli's men were awarded a penalty.Messi stepped up to take it, however, the iconic Barcelona forward saw his spot-kick saved by Iceland 'keeper Hannes Halldorsson. This, of course, comes just one day after Cristiano Ronaldo bagged a hat-trick to secure a point for Portugal in a dramatic 3-3 draw with Spain.Patrice Evra knows Cristiano well and reckons he's identified a huge difference between the two best players in the world after Argentina 1-1 Iceland.

Messi misses, Ronaldo scores

While Messi failed to convert from 12 yards out, Ronaldo coolly sent David de Gea the wrong way on Friday to score inside four minutes of Portugal's World Cup opener.

Evra was teammates with the Real Madrid star at Manchester United for three-and-a-half successful years and hence knows the man behind the player.

The Frenchman was in the ITV studio for their coverage of Argentina's draw with Iceland and, during the post-match analysis, he had his say on Messi and Ronaldo.

Evra: The difference between Leo and Cristiano

As you can see in the videos further down the page, Evra believes that Cristiano enjoys the pressure more and Messi grows frustrated when he has to do everything alone.

"When you saw Cristiano Ronaldo last night (against Spain), it's down to Cristiano Ronaldo," the 37-year-old began. "Today, it was down to Messi.

"And he didn't perform well. I think the players around him should perform much better but Ronaldo had the same problem last night.

Evra, who last played for West Ham, continued: "I just feel like Ronaldo enjoys the pressure more than Messi. I think Messi just gets frustrated, but Ronaldo just loves it."

Is Evra right?

While Messi has done the business in several major finals for Barca, left-back Evra did make some valid points when it comes to international football.

Argentina constantly look to Messi for inspiration on the biggest stages, in a similar way to how Portugal rely on Ronaldo most of the time.

After one group match each, the 33-year-old is well and truly up and running at this year's World Cup, while Messi will hope to bounce back against Croatia.
