There's no doubt that WWE Hall Of Famer Bret "The Hitman" Hart is one of the the greatest professional wrestlers of all time.

Not many had the story-telling ability of the Canadian, or the in-ring ability, or his connection with young fans. After over twenty years in the business Hart captured five WWE Championships, two Intercontinental Titles, two King Of The Ring victories, and was a co-winner of the 1994 Royal Rumble.

In 2006 Hart was inducted into the Hall Of Fame for his historic career. Since he has made sporadic appearances on WWE TV.

Hart has also been rather critical of today's WWE product. The 60-year-old doesn't believe that the art of storytelling is alive in today's product.

Storytelling

Instead of trying to tell a story, Hart feels like today's wrestlers try and do too many highlights spots and suck the drama out of the sport.

Hart recently did an interview with Talk Sport and discussed what he believes is wrong with today's product (quotes via NoDQ):

“I think I was a better storyteller than any of the wrestlers they’ve got today. I watched Wrestlemania this year and there’s no drama anymore.

"They do some amazing stuff, there are some incredible athletes, but people don’t know how to tell a story.”

“Wrestling has it’s flows, it will change again as people get tired of the ‘phoney’ wrestling, I watched my match with Davey Boy at Wembley with some journalists in a bar and they almost bought into it like it was real.”

“The fact that fans reacted so strongly to those two British Wrestlers (Pete Dunne & Tyler Bate) shows you it might be going back in the other direction.”

Change Of Times

Hart has a point when he talks about how different today's wrestling product is. Aside from his point about telling stories, today's era offers promos that are far too scripted.

The best workers on the mic are those from The Attitude Era such as The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Triple H, and more.

During those times Superstars were given bullet points for their promos instead of fully scripted lines that they trip up on during TV. The product has certainly changed over the years, and maybe not for the better.
