If he chooses to do so, LeBron James has the option to opt out of his current deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers this summer and become an unrestricted free agent with a litter of teams to pick from. He has to let Cleveland know that he will be doing this by June 29.
One of the main reasons why many believe the King might opt out of his current deal with the Cavs is to try and win another NBA Championship with a different team after falling short in three of the past four years in the NBA Finals vs the Golden State Warriors.
However, Basketball Hall of Famer and Los Angeles Lakers legend Shaquille O'Neal wants LeBron to think really hard about his upcoming decision, as he believes he doesn't need to win any more NBA titles.
Stop chasing
During an interview with ESPN at a pre-draft event on Friday evening for teens from the Y in Brooklyn, Shaq talked about his own journey near the end of his career chasing after another title. He won three titles with the Lakers and one with the Miami Heat, but he didn't win any in the final three seasons of his 19-year career.
The Lakers icon wanted LeBron to know that he doesn't need to chase after another NBA Championship because his legacy as one of the greatest of all-time is already set with the achievements he's accomplished in his 15-year career.
O'Neal said: "Somebody told me a long time ago -- they said your book is already set [before the later stages of your career]. You can add index pages toward the end, but your book is already set. So LeBron's book is already set. He done already passed up legends; he done already made his mark -- he has three rings.
"His mentality now is probably: I want to get four before [Golden State Warriors guard] Steph [Curry] does. That's probably his mentality now. But if I was him, I wouldn't be trying to get four, five and six because it ain't going to matter. It's just something else to talk about, something else to add to the pages.
"He's a legend, talked about as who is the best between he and Michael Jordan, so he's set."
Shaq added that no matter where LeBron goes, even if he stays in Cleveland, he's going to find it difficult to win another title because of the roster which the Warriors have built.
He said: "Golden State turning themselves into a dynasty is making it hard for other teams to compete, so he's either going to say, 'I want to get four before [the Warriors] get four' and do a quick fix, or Cleveland's going to have to do a lot of phone calls and lot of moves to get him the squad he wants.
"But it's going to be difficult. You have three superstars on one team that actually play the right way. Even with LeBron [on a roster], if you don't play the right way, it doesn't matter."
