Although Sheamus has been a hit-and-miss character for the WWE Universe since his debut, it's clear that he's carved out a Hall of Fame-worthy career during his time with the company.

The Celtic Warrior has managed to seriously impress in any role he's been thrown in, ranging from multiple WWE Championship wins, right through to his impressive team with Cesaro as The Bar.

IMPRESSIVE CAREER

Still, it's clear that Sheamus is going to go down as one of the more underrated and underappreciated stars in WWE, even though he was pushed to the moon as soon as he was brought to the main roster.

Naturally, fans are always going to bring up the fact that he's favoured by Triple H and it's why he's been given some considerable pushes in the WWE, especially since it's common knowledge that the two used to work out together.

Still, being given opportunities and impressing in them are two entirely different things, and the latter is where the Irishman has excelled. Perhaps the most famous win of Sheamus' career in WWE is his shocking WWE Championship win over John Cena at TLC all the way back in 2009.

At the time, it was almost a guarantee that the newbie wasn't going to defeat Cena in his first big match on the roster against the biggest name in the company. Although it was a tables match and the 'accidental' finish made it seem like it was incorrect, Sheamus left the victor and the new champion in a shocking title change.

FIRST WWE CHAMPIONSHIP

Now, Sheamus told TelegraphHerald.com that despite the huge title change, WWE only told him on the day of Extreme Rules that he was going to dethrone Cena to become champion for the first time.

According to Wrestling News Source, he said: "It was crazy. It was a little bit of a blur.

"I didn’t know I was going to win the title until that day.

"I did a segment with Mark Cuban where I held the title in my hands, and I thought, ‘This is awesome. This is crazy.’ Then a week or two later they were putting my name on the title, and it was nuts. It’s one of those things that feels like a fantasy come true. It was a great way to kick off my career in WWE.”

Clearly, WWE had plenty of faith that Sheamus was going to be a big star.

The company has tried and failed with experiments before, but the risk they took with Sheamus clearly paid off in the best way.
