Last year it seemed that Paxton Lynch was in his final days with the Denver Broncos.

Former Vikings quarterback Case Keenum signed with the Broncos, saving them the chore of drafting a new signal caller that they'd be forced to groom for years to come. As a result, Lynch will get another shot in Denver - as a backup.

Although, of course, he'd enjoy being the starting quarterback for the Broncos, Lynch seems to be okay with having that role for now (quotes via NFL.com):

"There is always room for improvement (but) I obviously believe I can go out and play right now," Lynch said, per the Denver Post.

"But that's not my job right now. Case is the guy and I'm doing everything I can to make the team better and make myself better.

"I'm obviously confident in my abilities and what I can do. I'm hanging my hat on that and I'll be ready."

Lynch went 1-3 during the four games he started last season in Denver. He was one of several quarterbacks who attempted to lead the team last year in addition to Trevor Siemian and Brock Osweiler.

For now, Denver seems to have found their man in Keenum. Should that not work out, however, Lynch will be waiting for a second opportunity to pounce on and hopefully secure himself the starting position.

Keenum certainly proved himself capable of leading a team last season with the Vikings, who he led to a playoff appearance before getting trounced by eventual Super Bowl winners the Philadelphia Eagles.

Lynch is a former first round draft pick from Denver in 2016, and while he waits and develops behind Keenum he may eventually grow into the potential that the front office once saw in him when they selected him.

He seems interested in that happening should it be the case:

"I was really excited, actually, when we got Case for the fact he's a veteran guy who's been through it a little bit and had his ups and downs," Lynch said.

"The way he carries himself and handles himself -- he's a pro and that only benefits me and the other guys in the locker room and the other guys in the quarterback room."
