Brazil's World Cup didn't start as many predicted.

The Selecao were drawn in one of the harder groups alongside Switzerland, Serbia and Costa Rica, but few could see beyond Tite's side picking up maximum points.

Well, that's now not going to happen, with Switzerland holding them to a 1-1 draw.

Philippe Coutinho notched one of the goals of the tournament to open the scoring, but Steven Zuber was on hand early in the second half to earn the European side a deserved point.

Brazil were brilliant in patches, but their big names failed to light up the show for 90 minutes.

At the start of the game, it was evident that the Selecao were trying to attack down the left, with Marcelo, Coutinho and Neymar seeing a lot of the ball.

However, there influence on the game faded and a lot of that was down to the brilliant defensive work of Arsenal's first summer signing Stephan Lichtsteiner.

While the right-back was caught out on certain occasions, he stood firm against three of the best players in the world.

And Arsenal legend Ian Wright jumped to his defence after the game on Twitter, replying to a fan who tried to put a negative spin on Lichtsteiner's performance.

WRIGHT'S TWEETS

Wright has got a point, with Xherdan Shaqiri doing zero defensive work during the 90 minutes.

Had it not been for Valon Behrami drifting over to help, Lichtsteiner would have suffered a lot more.

Brazil's manager had some interesting thoughts after the game, refusing to blame his side's poor marking for the equaliser.

He said: "We conceded because of a fault, not because of bad positioning or poor tactical awareness."

Tite was referring to the shove from Zuber on Miranda before his header, something he mentioned once again when quizzed on Gabriel Jesus' penalty appeal.

"Gabriel Jesus' penalty appeal could be interpreted differently by referees, but Miranda situation was very clearly a foul which was not given," he said.

It will be interesting to see if any changes are made to the team next Friday vs Costa Rica. Roberto Firmino anyone?
