It was touch and go in Pittsburgh for a while as their star quarterback Ben Roethlisberger debated retirement. 

Thankfully for all Steelers fans, that's not a problem they have to worry about anymore, as Big Ben recently confirmed he wants to play for another three to five years. 

That of course, is great news for his team. Because the now 36-year-old has been one of the best players to ever pull on the black and gold.

BIG BEN'S STELLAR CAREER

Roethlisberger's career to date alone has been worthy of the Hall of Fame. He's a six-time Pro Bowler, holds multiple franchise and NFL records and he's won the Super Bowl twice.

His two world championships came following the 2005 and 2008 seasons - and Big Ben was the driving force behind Pittsburgh's success.    

There's no doubt then, that the quarterback is a Steelers' legend. And what he's apparently willing to do when it comes to his new contract, proves just how much he loves his team. 

HIS NEW CONTRACT

Normally, when a top QB announces that he's willing to extend his stay in the League, his services don't come cheap. 

In fact, the highest paid player in the NFL is usually the last good signal-caller to get paid. The likes of Joe Flacco, Andrew Luck and Derek Carr all come to mind when that's said. 

However - getting a big payday apparently isn't high on the list of things Roethlisberger wants to do at the moment. 

WINNING AND LOOKING AFTER HIS TEAMMATES 

That's because he's more interested in breaking records and winning Super Bowls - as well as looking after his Steelers teammates.   

"I care about record-breaking Super Bowl wins and things like that - that's more important to me," he said, per NFL.com. 

In fact, he doesn't sound at all worried about the deal he'll get when his current contract expires in two years time. 

"I have two years on my contract. I'm not going to be one to sit here and worry about my contract," Roethlisberger continued.

"It's important, too, to understand as quarterback of this team, sometimes you almost have to leave a little bit of money behind for other guys."

Showing off the most professional of mindsets, the QB also pointed out that there are other players on the team deserving of a big payday because, without them, he (and the team) can't succeed. 

"I know in two years, [Maurkice] Pouncey, [Marcus] Gilbert, there are other very important guys up that I hope get taken care of," Roethlisberger said.

"Because if they aren't here, I'm not here. That's the way it is; they are that good."

Clearly, Big Ben has his priorities set. And it's so refreshing to hear that a quarterback isn't just in it for the money - but that he wants to win, and also wants to look after his teammates too.
