England are up and running after defeating Tunisia 2-1 in their opening World Cup match.Gareth Southgate’s side were made to sweat but cometh the man, cometh the hour; Harry Kane scored the winner in the first minute of second half injury-time.The scoreline suggests a close game but England were far better than their opponents.Indeed, the Three Lions could have been home and dry long before the end if VAR was working properly.Kane was wrestled to the ground in Tunisia’s box on two occasions but the referee and his assistants watching from behind the scenes somehow missed both incidents. So there was a huge sense of relief when Kane headed home in the closing stages. An entire nation celebrated the win and among them was Daniel Sturridge.

Sturridge tweets

The Liverpool forward’s career has been on a downward path for some time now and the fact that he wasn’t even considered for Southgate’s squad really says a lot.

But Sturridge showed he’s just like every England fan with his tweet at full-time.

“Yesssssss love that boys!!!! 🦁🦁🦁Great start to the campaign. Let's go!!,” Sturridge wrote.

Love that, Daniel.

England rarely do things the easy way but some of the football that Southgate’s side produced was very exciting.

The England coach admitted in his post-match interview that there are things to work on and that’s definitely correct; England squandered many chances to secure the win before injury-time.

But as we’ve seen from Argentina, Germany and Brazil, it’s not easy to win a World Cup match and the most important thing for England was to keep pace with Belgium in Group G.

Here’s to the next one.
