There's been so much talk surrounding a possible fight between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov in recent weeks.

It's likely that the pair could meet as early as late autumn this year, with Notorious looking to get his UFC career back on track.

CONOR VS KHABIB

Nurmagomedov is the current lightweight champion - after he won the belt back in April at UFC 223 against Al Iaquinta.

However, he's only the undisputed champ because McGregor was stripped of his lightweight title on the same week, officially due to inactivity.

But if the Irishman does make a comeback, the situation would lend itself to a huge fight between the two men.

STALLING NEGOTIATIONS

Despite both camps appearing to want the fight, negotiations are still on-going - but according to McGregor's coach Owen Roddy, the situation is "brewing up nicely".

However, according to The Eagle himself, it's actually been the Notorious one who's stalling the negotiations.

"I do not yet know who my opponent will be," Nurmagomedov told sport24.ru, per Bloody Elbow.

"The fight will likely take place in Las Vegas. I want to fight McGregor; the fans are also waiting for this fight. I hope that Conor wants this fight.

"He talked a lot but for some reason, as soon as it came down to real negotiations about the fight, he fell silent.”

So, judging by Khabib's comments, it's still unclear if any official talks are taking place between the two camps.

SCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER?

Even so, reports have been suggesting that a McGregor vs Nurmagomedov title bout is expected to headline UFC 229 in October.

And if the fight does happen, The Eagle is very confident that he'll finish the fight inside five rounds.

Although he didn't predict what round he'd knock his opponent out - Khabib did send a strong warning to McGregor - saying that he's going to destroy him.

"In what round will I be able to knock McGregor out? I do not know, and no one can know this. I’m going to destroy him."

With the Dagestani fighter sending such a clear message to McGregor, it's surely only a matter of time before we hear of official negotiations and agreements being made between the pair.
