Jack Wilshere is officially leaving Arsenal.

After spending his entire career at the north London club, Wilshere decided late on Tuesday night that he would see out his contract until its terminus in June.

The 26-year-old first joined the Arsenal youth ranks in 2001 and has gone on to make 197 first-team appearances, scoring 14 goals.

Wilshere has been dogged with injury problems across his career with the Gunners and a poor loan spell with Bournemouth looked to have been the final straw.

However, Arsene Wenger gave him a final chance to perform and Wilshere made an impressive return to first-team action in 2017-18.

Wilshere leaving Arsenal

It wasn't to last, though, with a poor climax to his season seeing him miss out on the England squad and fall out of favour.

Rumours spread linking Wilshere with moves to various Premier League clubs and even European sides such as Juventus.

Confirmation of his departure has just changed everything, though.

Emotional Facebook post

Wilshere is very active on social media and used Facebook to announce the news.

Such was the magnitude of his decision that he went into great detail about his decision, posting three photographs worth of notes.

Wow, wow, wow.

It's major news for Arsenal fans, no doubt about it.

Although Wilshere hasn't always impressed and has struggled for fitness, he's held a special place in the heart of many Gooners with his unwavering love for the club.

It will be strange to see the Gunners walk out next season without Wilshere featuring in some capacity.

More to follow.
