Arsenal fans were stunned on Tuesday night as Jack Wilshere revealed he would be leaving the club.
The English midfielder has been locked in contract talks with the Gunners for some time now and he has finally decided to call an end to proceedings.
He will turn his back on the north London club when his current contract expires at the end of June.
Wilshere made the announcement across numerous social media platforms, first breaking the news on Facebook with an emotional video and lengthy explanation.
Arsenal responded soon after on their website, posting the following statement: "Since joining our Academy more than 17 years ago aged just nine, Jack has been a tremendous player for the club and a much-loved member of the Arsenal family.

"Since making his Arsenal debut, Jack made a total of 197 appearances for the club, winning the FA Cup twice – in 2014 and 2015.
"Thank you Jack for your contribution and the fantastic memories. Good luck in the future."
The news has come as a shock to many with Wilshere regularly showing his undying love for Arsenal and a commitment to the club through numerous injuries and setbacks.

Nevertheless, he feels he has reached a point in his career where first-team football is a must and he believes that won't be the case under Unai Emery.
Unsurprisingly, support for Wilshere has rained in since the announcement and Arsenal legend Ian Wright was one of the first to react.
Ever vocal on social media, Wright is a diehard Arsenal supporter in equal measure and couldn't help passing on his best wishes to Wilshere.

Wright left Arsenal back in 1998 after a decline in his first-team playing time and can relate, like he says, to how Wilshere is feeling right now.
It seems the 26-year-old has some pretty concrete backing from Wright, as pained as he is to see Wilshere leave the Emirates.
Transfer rumours have been surrounding the midfielder for some time now, so it seems he'll have no trouble finding a potential suitor over the coming weeks.
Premier League sides such as West Ham and Southampton have been linked as well as European sides like Juventus.
Just in case Arsene Wenger stepped down as manager wasn't enough to suggest change at Arsenal this summer, another staple at the club is on his way out.
