Despite sticking to his word and staying in retirement, not even that is going to stop fans from discussing a potential in-ring return for Shawn Michaels. The Heartbreak Kid went out on the biggest platform possible after losing against The Undertaker at WrestleMania, and even a plethora of incoming talent hasn't been enough to see Michaels come back for one more match.

COMEBACK

Last year, there was a lot more talk that Michaels could be coming back as a fan-made poster featuring Michaels and AJ Styles was doing the rounds on social media. Even The Phenomenal One teased a match, but nothing came to fruition, and fans have either been left disappointed that the dream match didn't take place, or they're pleased that he's not affecting his legacy by coming back.

Although talk usually dies down, Michaels had the fans talking again last week when he revealed that he would be interested in returning. Although he was slightly misquoted at the time, he revealed that he would come back for one more match, but he admitted that fans shouldn't expect the Showstopper or Michaels in his prime.

Since then, Triple H went on to reveal what caused Michaels to admit to thinking about a return - something he hasn't done for years.

According to The Game, it's the work Michaels is doing in NXT which has given him the itch again to don his tights and return to the ring.

Despite that, when speaking to Alex McCarthy of GiveMeSport ahead of the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament in London, Michaels cleared up exactly what he meant when addressing a return, claiming he's only interested in competing in a tag team match, and not a dream singles match.

CLARIFICATION

The tweet reads: "HBK clears up comeback rumours. He says he would be interested in working a tag vs. other 40+ guys, but he can’t take on people in their prime in any dream matches because he “won’t look or feel the same.” #WWE."

Other than Styles, Daniel Bryan is a name fans have claimed makes the most sense, primarily since he trained Bryan and was a prominent figure in the storyline featuring The Authority - but that ship might have sailed.

Michaels has previously admitted that the only team that makes sense of reforming D-Generation X with Triple H at WrestleMania, and there will be plenty of teams on the roster that would jump at the chance to be humiliated by both men at the Grandest Stage of Them All.
