Usain Bolt was on the losing side during Soccer Aid.

The retired sprinter captained a World XI team that included the likes of Yaya Toure and Clarence Seedorf in their charity match against an England XI.

Yet despite losing a penalty shootout, Bolt was given the Man of the Match award and posed a consistent threat to England.

It was an enjoyable occasion for many of the celebrities involved but there was something else riding on it for Bolt.

The Jamaican has dreams of becoming a professional footballer, and so the match presented an opportunity to see whether Bolt has what it takes to make it.

He’s trained with Borussia Dortmund - whose former coach said he isn’t ready for top flight football - and Norwegian side Stromsgodset.

Various clips show a player with plenty to work on if he wants to reach the professional ranks.

Bolt in shooting drill

As the fastest man on the planet, Bolt is well worth considering.

But it’s what he’s like with the ball at his feet that will really decide his future.

Copa90 decided to find out if Bolt is good enough by putting him through a series of shooting drills with former Arsenal midfielder Robert Pires.

And it’s pretty apparent during the video that, for all his enthusiasm, Bolt isn’t at the level required to be a professional footballer just yet.

His shooting is erratic, sending an effort soaring over the bar even after receiving some words of advice from Pires.

It all makes Bolt’s dream of making it pretty sad.

“I really want to try and make it professionally, to play at a high level,” the 31-year-old said in March.

“My goal is to make a top team and play in one of the top leagues in the world.”

Bolt shouldn’t be knocked for having such an ambitious target and given what he achieved on the track, he clearly has the motivation and drive required to compete at the top.

He may well end up signing for a club one day, but it’s unlikely to be “top team” he has in his sights.
