Considering AJ Styles was seen as a wrestler that would 'never make it in the WWE,' and that Vince McMahon would never give a rival superstar a huge push, it's safe to say that he's done pretty well for himself since arriving from Japan.

The Phenomenal One was - and still is - widely considered as the best wrestler on the planet, but it still came as a surprise that the WWE finally pulled the trigger and brought him over by having him debut in epic fashion at the Royal Rumble a little over two years ago.

PHENOMENAL

Since then, he's competed at WrestleMania, he's had multiple WWE and United States Championship reigns, he's had epic feuds opposite the likes of John Cena and Chris Jericho and he's remained over with the crowd the entire time. With today's fan base, that is incredibly tough to do, but he's managing it perfectly.

In a time where WWE fans widely criticise the company for playing hot potato with prestigious championships, Styles - like Brock Lesnar - has held a world title for a considerable amount of time. The Beast captured the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 33 when he defeated Goldberg, while Styles won SmackDown LIVE's top prize in Manchester, UK against Jinder Mahal in what can be considered a surprising title change.

To this day, he's remained the active champion the WWE has needed. Now, he's edging closer to breaking one of The Rock's title records in perhaps record time.

Reddit user 'GummiDemilo' brought the interesting stat to light, revealing that AJ Styles is currently listed at 364 total days as WWE Champion and counting through both of his title reigns.

What this means is that, as of this writing, Styles is currently two weeks short of The Rock's recognised total of 378 days as WWE Champion.

RECORD

Notably, The Great One managed to accumulate that total across eight different reigns, whereas Styles is close to leapfrogging him in only his second run with the WWE's biggest prize.

For a star who only joined the WWE year ago, that's very impressive and shows how much trust the company has in him to carry SmackDown LIVE.

Of course, there's no denying the fact that The Rock had to achieve that total in an era which featured the likes of The Undertaker, Triple H, Stone Cold Steve Austin and more - all of whom were featured in the main event scene with only one main title to chase compared to today's two.

With a great deal being made about records right now, however, perhaps fans wouldn't mind if it's AJ Styles who eclipses CM Punk's modern day 'record' of 434 days as WWE Champion down the line.

At this rate, Styles could become someone who achieves it all in the shortest amount of time in WWE.
