With the underwhelming feud between Shinsuke Nakamura and AJ Styles coming to a strong end at Money in the Bank this past Sunday, it was finally time for the blue brand to see a new contender emerge and challenge The Phenomenal One.Monday Night RAW also started their hunt for a number one contender to Brock Lesnar's Universal Championship, with a multi-person match announced for Extreme Rules - but SmackDown LIVE wasn't exactly going down that route.

GAUNTLET

Instead, a gauntlet match took place featuring some of the finest SmackDown has to offer and it's safe to say that Rusev wasn't the first name fans immediately thought of. Instead, the assumption was that Samoa Joe would slot in and replace The King of Strong Style as the heel looking to dethrone Styles at Extreme Rules.

Following the match, all eyes seem to be on Daniel Bryan - and not because he was the final star to face Big Cass before his shocking release hours before SmackDown.

Instead, Bryan was attacked, somewhat surprisingly, by The Bludgeon Brothers which suggests that this is the new storyline kicking off for him.

However, fans also believe that a SummerSlam match was teased for Bryan, and it's all because of what happened with The Miz.

Speculation has suggested for months that Bryan and The A-Lister are bound to meet at some point, while other sources have claimed that the feud will only happen depending on Bryans contract status.

SUMMERSLAM

However, after Harper and Rowan attacked Bryan, it took The Miz one Skull Crushing Finale to finish the match in a matter of seconds to wipe him out of title contention.

Considering it was such a short stint between the pair - along with it being a highly anticipated - fans on Twitter now believe that the WWE did this on purpose to keep fans on the edge of their seats in what could be a possible SummerSlam bout between the pair.

As you can see by the reaction, it might only be a prediction at this point, but it's evidently something the fans desperately want, especially since his future in the WWE is still uncertain at this point.

The only downside to a potential feud between the pair, however, is that fans were hoping The Miz would win Money in the Bank - allowing their eventual clash to have the WWE Championship on the line.

With or without a title, though, it's going to be a feud the fans are fully engaged with.
