As to be expected, one name has dominated this summer's World Cup so far - Cristiano Ronaldo.

In Portugal's opening two games the 33-year-old has scored four goals, three of which coming in the stunning 3-3 draw against Spain last Friday.

Ronaldo opened the scoring that game with a penalty before adding a second and then bagging his hat-trick with a trademark free-kick.

And he was once again the hero during Wednesday's 1-0 win over Morocco, finding the back of the net with a bullet header early on.

Ronaldo's goal against Morocco saw him leapfrog Hungary legend Ferenc Puskas to become the all-time top goalscorer for a European national team (85).

It also means he's now the second all-time top goalscorer in international football, though it's unlikely he'll ever catch Ali Daei's tally of 109 for Iran.

Not that it matters to the Real Madrid star, whose sole focus in Russia is to guide Portugal to a second major trophy in two years.

RONALDO'S ON FIRE

"I don't care about the records," said the Portugal captain. "The most important thing was the win and to stay in a good position.

"The opponent was very strong, Morocco played very well, but we got the three points. We have four points now, so we're close to qualifying - that's our objective."

Ronaldo's goalscoring form isn't the only thing that's attracted attention at the World Cup, though, with his goatee also a big talking point.

Never before has the 33-year-old donned facial hair and it was previously thought that his goatee was a way of mocking Lionel Messi.

However, Ronaldo has now revealed the real reason for his new look and it's because of a bet he made with Portugal teammate Ricardo Quaresma.

Ronaldo grew his goatee before the Spain game and told Quaresma he would keep it if he scored. He ended up bagging three, which is why it remains.

"This goatee? It's a joke I had with Quaresma," explained Ronaldo after the Morocco game. "We were in the sauna [before Friday's match against Spain] and I started to shave and I left the goatee.

"I said if I score tomorrow I would leave it for the rest of the tournament. And it gave me luck, I scored that game, I scored this one [against Morocco], so it stays."

Can't argue with that. Everyone has their own unique good luck charm and clearly Ronaldo thinks growing a goatee has helped him in Russsia.
