The Kawhi Leonard saga is set to rumble on deep into the offseason as the Spurs All Star continues to attempt to force his way out of San Antonio. Leonard met with Gregg Popovich Tuesday evening to seemingly try and talk through some of the underlying issues that have led him to this point. No details have arisen from the meeting as yet, but the Spurs are continuing to make it clear that they have no intention on giving their young star up without a fight. Clearly they'd rather not move on from inarguably one of the top five or so players in the NBA, and their current stance is completely reflective of that belief. There have already been multiple rumours emerging from within the organisation that they will not do any business regarding Leonard with Western Conference teams, and it's now becoming clear exactly how Popovich and R.C. Buford are looking to move forward with the less-than-ideal task of sorting out Leonard's future. According to Chris Mannix of Yahoo Sports the hierarch San Antonio will at no stage start actively shopping the 2014 Finals MVP, but they will be prepared to listen to offers that teams bring to them. It's certainly a sign that they believe correcting the situation with Leonard will prove troublesome, but that they aren't giving up on a reunion just yet.

Leonard has his heart set on landing with the Lakers in 2019, when he becomes a free agent, but it's looking increasingly likely that he won't be able to arrive in LA any sooner.

It's a huge conundrum for the Spurs, as they could get a huge package for him this summer, but trading one of the league's best players is never a good look to a fanbase.

Having said that, they stand to lose a lot more if they stubbornly hang on to him for the 2018/19 season as it's almost certain that he'll bolt at his first chance. Even with a $219 million super-max extension available to him this summer, it's becoming increasingly certain that Leonard will be donning another team's jersey come October.

But, with the West all-but ruled out, it'll be up to an Easter foe to step up with an offer that is simply too good to refuse. If that fails to happen, we could see an ugly situation arise between Leonard and the Spurs.

If nobody steps up, San Antonio may have no choice but to start testing the market sooner rather than later.
