Spain are making hard work of the group stages at the Russia World Cup.Spain inexplicably sacked Julen Lopetegui just days before the start of the tournament, with Fernando Hierro given the task of leading their campaign. And they have not been convincing in their opening group games.Their defensive frailties were plain to see against Portugal as they drew 3-3.They desperately needed to defeat Iran to keep their hopes of a berth in the knock-out stages alive, and after a goalless first half, they eventually stumbled to a 1-0 victory courtesy of a very fortunate Diego Costa goal.Hierro's side still have work to do to get into the last 16, however, with at least a point needed in their last group game against Morocco next Monday. The star of Spain's campaign so far has undoubtedly been Isco. The Real Madrid man is not a regular starter at his club, but a stunning performance against Portugal last week had everyone raving about him.And he produced another brilliant display against Iran. The highlight was a phenomenal scoop pass to Andres Iniesta in the first half.

Pure genius from the 26-year-old.

Not many in the world even think about doing this, let alone execute it.

It's just a shame Iniesta's cut back was blocked, otherwise it would have made for a quite ridiculous goal.

And fans went crazy about his piece of skill on Twitter.

While many watching the game would have been highly praising Iran, that was not a view shared by Dani Carvajal.

The Spanish full-back was clearly agitated by their tactics and time-wasting, and let his feelings known in a rant after the game.

"The way they set up their side to shut up shop is part and parcel of football, but all the time-wasting and feigning injury ruins the game," he said. "I don't think that's football; it's not in the spirit of the game.

"Their players repeatedly went down for no reason, even when they weren't hurt, when they hadn't been fouled.

"It's hard to play against a side that sits back and defends in numbers. These are the types of games that win World Cups. They're obstacles you have to negotiate; you just have to find a way to get those three points. Now what's most important is that we go on and top the group."
