Lionel Messi is hoping to win his first piece of silverware with Argentina this summer. The 31-year-old forward - who has won 32 trophies at Barcelona - has reached four major finals in international football but has never managed to win.Argentina drew 1-1 with Iceland in their opening fixture at the 2018 World Cup after Messi saw his penalty saved by Hannes Halldorsson.“Obviously it hurts me to have missed the penalty," said Messi, as per the Independent. "They would have opened a little more and we could have found more spaces.“We have the bitterness of not being able to take the three points that we deserved. To start with winning is always important, now we have to think about Croatia. We will try to pass this quickly.”Argentina desperately need a positive result when they face Croatia in a hugely important fixture on Thursday night.Messi will be up against his Barcelona teammate Ivan Rakitic

Barca fans tweet Rakitic

The 30-year-old Croatian midfielder has been a key player at the Camp Nou since joining from Sevilla in 2014.

Rakitic sent out a tweet ahead of Croatia v Argentina and plenty of Barcelona supporters were keen to respond.

Instead of wishing him luck, countless Barcelona fans told Rakitic to let Messi win or his future in Catalonia would be in doubt.

The replies to his tweet were absolutely shameful - have a look for yourself.

Obviously, Rakitic will ignore the fans and give everything to help Croatia progress to the knockout stages.

Regardless, this is not a good look for Barcelona's fan base.

Fans were begging Rakitic to perform badly - but a victory over Messi's Argentina would seal Croatia's spot in the Round of 16.

Croatian coach Zlatko Dalic claimed he would turn to Rakitic for ideas on how to stop Messi.

“Of course, Rakitic will be my assistant for the next three days, and we will certainly look for some advice on how to stop Messi,” Dalic told reporters, as per Reuters.

“I always ask my players about such things and about many other things, I love communicating and I am happy to accept every tip.

“Ivan likes it too and he will tell me, I will use all the information I can.”
