According to reports that have been surfacing since the end of the season, there has been growing tension within the Minnesota Timberwolves camp.

ESPN's Zach Lowe and Brian Windhorst revealed that star player Karl-Anthony Towns has been one man heavily involved in that as he's had disagreements with head coach Tom Thibodeau.

There may be some truth to these rumours as the two have apparently been communicating since the campaign ended to work out their differences.

The Athletic's Jon Krawczynski has reported that they plan to have further "substantive dialogue" in the coming weeks so they can be on the same page for next season.

Not seeing eye to eye

Thibodeau addressed the media this week and was unsurprisingly asked about his relationship with his All-Star and the reported turmoil within the organisation.

"He's doing quite well," Thibodeau told reporters, according to Krawczynski. "And I love KAT. He's had a terrific start to his career.

"… To get to where we are - and obviously we're not where we ultimately want to be, but it was a major step forward - you can't do it individually. It's got to be the whole group doing it together. And for the most part, I think we are in a good place."

"When you look around the league, there's rumours everywhere, so you don't want to respond to every rumour. And when you go down a path where you're trying to change things to improve, there's going to be some bumps in the road.

"But your communication, what you're doing every day, these are not uncommon things."

Underwhelming playoff debut

Coach Thibs was especially hard on Towns as the 22-year-old struggled in his first ever playoff series against the Houston Rockets.

After an impressive campaign where he averaged 21.3 points, 12.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.4 blocks, he failed to assert himself in the postseason and appeared to lose confidence.

Thibodeau called him out on more than one occasion in the series for his lack of effort and this may have contributed to their apparent falling out.

But the Timberwolves know he's crucial to their success and it's not surprising to discover that they're looking to iron out their issues.

KAT was recently named to the All-NBA third team and it proves why he's regarded as one of the best bigs in the league.

He's already the face of the franchise and a future superstar so it'll be crucial for the T-Wolves to keep him happy so he can continue to play his best basketball in Minnesota.
