Germany kicked off their 2018 World Cup campaign on Sunday.

The defending champions made a disastrous start and were deservedly beaten 1-0 by Mexico at the Luzhniki Stadium.

Hirving Lozano scored the only goal of the game in the 35th minute after the Germans were caught on the counter-attack.

"In the first half we played very badly. We were not able to impose our usual way of playing," Joachim Loew told a news conference, as per Eurosport.

"But we will not just break apart now and become headless and do something completely different.

"There is no need to break out in panic just because we have lost a match."

Germany will look to bounce back when they face top-of-the-group Sweden on Saturday night.

Khedira v Swedish journalist

A cheeky Swedish reporter had a question for Sami Khedira ahead of their crucial fixture.

He presented some boarding passes for Khedira and his German teammates because they "will lose against Sweden on Saturday."

The Juventus midfielder didn't lose his cool and dealt with the cheeky journalist perfectly.

"Thanks a lot, but we don't need them," responded Khedira.

"We don't want to go back home. We are thinking to win this game.

"After this bad start, we know that it's super difficult, but we know that we are a strong team. We're convinced that we will win the game.

"I think we'll need them (the plane tickets) on the 16th of July."

The World Cup final takes place in Moscow on July 15 - and Khedira is still very confident that his country will be involved.

Not many players could stay quite so cool as the former Real Madrid midfielder.

Despite their poor performance against Mexico, Germany possess an incredible winning mentality which Sweden's Emil Forsberg is very impressed by.

"I like the [German] mentality," said the RB Leipzig forward, as per Fotbollskanalen. "To hate losing, to do everything right, to never accept a loss or losing a duel.

"The Germans have statistics on everything from every match. How much you win, how much you lose, how much you should win a match by.

"A lot of numbers are presented every day. It's something you can learn from."
