Before the World Cup, many football fans were backing France to go all the way. It’s hardly surprising either, is it?With the likes of Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe going forward and N’Golo Kante protecting the back-four, this France side is full of talent. But Paul Pogba was tipped to have a big tournament. The 25-year-old didn’t have the greatest season under Jose Mourinho and Old Trafford but had the chance to show why he cost £89 million on the world stage this summer.Against Australia, he didn’t really take it.However, alongside Kante in France’s second match against Peru, he was simply brilliant. In fact, it was he who won the ball back high up the pitch before sliding a brilliant ball through to Olivier Giroud which led to Mbappe’s goal.

And while he’s often criticised by football fans on Twitter for his performance, Pogba was getting plenty of praise for his display against Peru.

Fans believed that with Kante alongside him, he was given the chance to impose himself on a match rather than worrying about his defensive duties quite as much.

TWITTER REACTS TO POGBA'S PERFORMANCE

Take a look at the best reaction:

We mentioned that Pogba is often criticised whenever he has a bad game and that’s a theory the player himself certainly agrees with.

Following France’s 2-1 victory against Australia on Saturday, Pogba even claimed he was the world's 'most criticised player’.

"It seems I have less right than others to make mistakes," he said.

"It's funny, I went from being the biggest transfer in the world to the most-criticised player in the world. The critics will always be there. That's football.

"When I was little with my friends, we always used to take the mickey out of each other, saying, 'You were good, you were bad.'

"It's what happens on every football pitch, and I treat the criticism now like I did when I was playing on the street as a kid.

"I'm out there having fun -- and that's the only answer I can give to all those people who criticise me or think I am this or that. It's not a big deal. Everybody has opinions."

Not today though, Paul.
