Despite his loss to Nick Kyrgios in the first round at Queens on Tuesday, Scotland's Andy Murray showed great spirit upon his return to competitive tennis after nearly a year out - and also demonstrated no lack of sharpness when it comes to his social media banter following Argentina's 3-0 capitulation against Croatia at the World Cup on Thursday evening. Former player Juan Monaco and Argentina's current number two Diego Schwartzman had travelled to the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium in Russia hoping to see his countrymen attempt to bounce back from a dismal performance in their Group D opener against Iceland on Saturday, where they could only manage a 1 - 1 draw. However, a horrific error from goalkeeper Willy Caballero in the 53rd-minute allowed Croatia to take a shock lead on route to their three-goal triumph, leaving Argentina in real danger of elimination from the tournament. The defeat marked the first time that Argentina have failed to win either of their opening two matches at a World Cup since 1974, but Murray was in no mood to show sympathy to Schwartzman. After seeing the post on Instagram, Murray couldn't help but leave a cheeky comment. As you can see below, the Scot wrote: "Are you happy you travelled all the way to watch that?" in a jibe at Argentina's dreadful performance.Although Schwartzman himself did not respond, Juan 'Pico' Monaco replied in notable fashion, tweeting the raised-finger emoji to Murray. Fans certainly enjoyed the exchange, with one hailing Murray as 'a savage b****'.

Murray should also perhaps still be wary of a reprisal from world number 11 Schwartzman.

Although Murray's home country of Scotland did not qualify for the World Cup, the 31-year-old currently finds himself ranked just 156th in the world following an extended absence from the sport due to a hip injury - and his lowly berth could well form the basis of some good-natured ribbing should Schwartzman decide to seek revenge.

Murray surprised many by lasting two hours and 39 minutes in his clash with Kyrgios in his return at Queens - and even looked set to win the match at one point.

His on-court attention will now turn to attempting to put on a strong showing at Wimbledon.

With many of the favoured teams struggling at the World Cup though, it would not be altogether shocking to see further tongue-in-cheek World Cup commentary from Murray over the coming days.
