There are probably very few jobs tougher than coaching a football team in the NFL. Actually winning games is only half the job - as coaches need to balance the needs of owners, fans and the players themselves too.  At times, it can be very rewarding, especially if you find success with a team. But very rarely will a head coach experience that consistently in the NFL. And because of that, many are often left looking over their shoulder, worrying about the possibility of being fired. Well, to make things even worse for them, ahead of the 2018 season, betting companies have been drawing up a list of those who are most likely to face the chop first next year.

THE LIST

With the season fast approaching, OddShark have shared a list of the 12 coaches with the shortest odds to be fired - and it makes for some interesting reading.

Check out the list below.

Rather unsurprisingly, it's the Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson who's got the shortest odds.

He's been in charge since 2016 and has coached 32 games. Incredibly, he's only managed to win one.

But after drafting Baker Mayfield as the first overall pick of the 2018 draft, he'll be hoping the rookie can help lead the Browns to some long overdue success - or at least help improve on their 0-16 2017 year.

Just behind him is Adam Gase, head coach of the Miami Dolphins. He turned heads during his first season with the team in 2016, taking Miami to the playoffs.

However, things didn't go so well last year, as the Dolphins finished with a poor 6-10 record - so again, if they kickoff 2018 with a poor run, seeing Gase fired wouldn't be too much of a shock.

There are some coaches though, who arguably shouldn't be on a list of people with the shortest odds to lose their job first.

THE SHOCKS

One of those coaches is Jon Gruden. The Oakland Raiders have only just hired him on a 10-year $100 million deal, so it seems almost ridiculous to think he could be the first to go.

Similarly, Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll will be shocked to see his name on that list.

He's taken the Seahawks to the playoffs in six of the last eight seasons, reached two Super Bowls - and won one.

Yes, things did go downhill last year as Seattle missed the playoffs, but it would still be surprising to see Carroll part ways with the franchise.

Although at those odds, it might be worth a punt.
