Argentina's 3-0 defeat to Croatia has left them on the brink of exiting the World Cup at the group stage. The 2014 finalists are in disarray following a calamitous performance, with reports in South America already surfacing that members of the squad want Jorge Sampaoli sacked before their final game against Nigeria. The former Sevilla boss is their sixth manager in the last eight years. The defending was abysmal, the goalkeeping embarrassing, the brutally physical aspects of their game misplaced entirely.Nicolás Otamendi shied away from headers but appeared to boot the ball at Ivan Rakitić's face while the Barcelona midfielder was on the turf. And where to start with Lionel Messi? There are some who will argue his failure to lead the Albiceleste to glory are an indictment of his shortcomings compared to Cristiano Ronaldo, but the forward was isolated and was undone by too many other elements of his team.Sampaoli's management of this hugely talented generation of players is now under huge scrutiny and like Edgardo Bauza before him, it looks as though his reign could be a very short one.

What Sherwood said afterwards

Tim Sherwood was among his angriest critics after the game, though the former Spurs coach took aim at the 58-year-old for rather different reasons.

The result was a rant about his appearance so entertaining that hundreds of fans have been sharing it on Twitter.

"If they'd won the game we'd be seeing his tattoos and his appearance on the side of the pitch doesn't matter," Sherwood said.

"Looking at him on the side of the pitch...He's a manager of a national team. He's standing there with a cut-sleeve shirt with tattoos all over.

"Listen, I might be old-fashioned but I don't think a manager should look like that, it mirrored his team's performance."

While it wasn't captured in this clip, journalist Duncan Castles has further elaborated on Sherwood's comments:

Argentines rage against Sampaoli

The feeling in Argentina right now is one of sheer fury and even mild-mannered former international Ossie Ardiles slammed Sampaoli as "arrogant" and "ignorant", per the Mirror.

“Plan A of Sampaoli: Give the ball to Messi and wait for a miracle," Ardiles said.

"If Plan A doesn’t work, Plan B. Errr. There is no plan B. Let alone plan C or D."

It's only right that serious questions are being asked - and it's not as if this crisis has come from nowhere.
