The World Cup has been anything but a fairytale for Mo Salah.Against all odds, the Liverpool forward recovered from the shoulder injury he sustained in the Champions League final to make it to the tournament.Having spent Egypt's opening game - a 1-0 defeat to Uruguay - on the bench, the 26-year-old made his entrance in the loss to Russia.By the time he had netted his penalty in the 73rd minute, his team were already three goals down and it proved too little, too late. The Pharaohs still have one match to contest against Saudi Arabia, but according to reports in Egypt, it was thought they may have to finish their campaign without their star man. It's been suggested by a number of outlets in Salah's homeland that amid a rift in the camp, he was planning to head home a game early in the knowledge that his country will not be making it to the last-16 regardless. In response to the rumours, Salah has now tweeted in Arabic to insist that there is absolutely no truth in them.

Salah has his say

"Everyone in Egypt is together and there is absolutely no disagreement between us," he wrote.

"We respect each other and the relationship is great."

Egypt respond

Interestingly, Egypt's FA president Hany Abo Rida has also weighed in and appeared to hint that his organisation weren't happy with the idea that Salah would return to his club, potentially for further medical examinations.

"I have no idea about Liverpool," he said, per the Mirror.

"But we have our captain Mohamed Salah and under the rules FIFA requires him to be inside his camp and requires him to stay with his team.

"He is happy to mingle with his team-mates and he was shocked by what the press has written about him and denied it all on social media.

"We're all perplexed by what has been published and have no idea where it came from."

The whole squad have been training as normal so that should put the reports to bed.

It's just disappointing that a tournament which was supposed to propel Salah onto the international stage has ended in such an early exit.
