Brazil have not performed to the standard expected of them at this World Cup.

The Brazilians drew their opening game against Switzerland, meaning they needed a positive result against Costa Rica in what was perceived to be their easiest game in the group.

And they only just managed that.

The game was all-square going into stoppage time, but Brazil scored twice in stoppage time to break Costa Rican hearts.

Brazil could breathe a huge sigh of relief at half-time, and one man who let his emotions pour out was star player, Neymar.

The Paris Saint-Germain forward had an action-packed game and immediately burst into tears after the final whistle went.

But why could he not contain his emotions?

Neymar has now posted an Instagram saying why, and it's emotional to say the least.

The Brazilian wrote in Portuguese and has since been translated to English.

"Not everyone knows what I went through to get here," he wrote. "The tears were of joy, of overcoming of the will to win.

"In my life things were never easy, and they wouldn't be now. The dream continues... No, not dream... A GOAL.

"Congratulations on the game boys!"

Those are the words from a very relieved man.

Neymar, as previously mentioned, had an action-packed game.

He was frustrated throughout, especially so after a penalty shout was ruled out by VAR.

The Paris Saint-Germain man also suffered a yellow card for a moment of frustration, before notching a goal with just seconds of the game to go.

Regardless of the result, both he and Brazil will have to improve if they want to triumph in this summer's World Cup.

Brazil are now in pole position to qualify from Group E, although they will stay have some work to do in their final group game.

They will face Serbia, and will likely need at least a point to qualify for the last-16.
