Safe to say it's been a frustrating World Cup for Lionel Messi.

As if drawing to Iceland in Argentina's opening game wasn't bad enough, the Barcelona star was on the receiving end of a 3-0 thumping against Croatia on Thursday night.

Messi genuinely looked powerless. When he made runs forward he didn't receive the ball, and when he dropped deep the quality around him just wasn't there.

It's hard not to feel sorry for the 31-year-old, but one man who is having of the argument that Messi is alone is Canadian pundit Sid Seixeiro, who presents Sportsnet.

A video is going viral of Seixeiro ripping Messi to pieces on live TV following the Argentina-Croatia game and 'ending' the Messi vs Ronaldo debate.

Seixeiro even labels Messi as a "fraud" and an "average" player when he isn't with Barcelona, which are both outrageous claims but make for a very entertaining watch. Check it out below.

"Domestically he (Messi) has won everything there is to win at Barcelona," he began. "He started at Barcelona when he was 13 and he's won everything there is to win.

"MESSI IS A FRAUD"

"Here's how you know what Messi's about. When they were winning the best things at Barcelona, there was Messi, Xavi, [Andres] Iniesta and [David] Villa. That was the team.

"When they would break from 2008 onwards and go their separate ways for major tournaments, Xavi, Iniesta, Villa and all those Spanish guys from Barca were winning tournaments.

"Euro 2008, World Cup 2010, Euro 2012. Messi, the second he steps onto a field without that core, is average and you have seen it in Copa Americas and World Cups.

"He's now gone 675 minutes without scoring a World Cup goal, because Xavi's not there, Iniesta's not there and Villa's not there. The best players I've seen in my life can play with anybody.

"Cristiano Ronaldo can play with anybody. Michael Carrick sucks. Darren Fletcher sucks. I'm making the point that Ronaldo didn't have Xavi. Ronaldo didn't have Iniesta.

"Zinedine Zidane can play with anyone, and he did it constantly with Juventus, France and Real Madrid, scoring in the final at Hampton Park in Scotland.

"Ronaldo, fat Ronaldo from Brazil, could play with anybody. That's greatness. That's a GOAT. That's a guy you respect.

"Fraud. He (Messi) has been a fraud internationally since he started his career and we're seeing it really come to the surface now. He's not the same guy when he leaves the Camp Nou.

"That has been proven over and over and over again. I'm not mad at him for playing with great guys at Barca, it's not his fault, but this GOAT discussion dies today.

"It's over. I don't want to hear it, I'm not bringing it up, I'm not retweeting it, it's done. Ronaldo is the greatest player I've seen in my life."
