Jose Mourinho has already completed two transfers this summer.

Full-back Diogo Dalot has arrived from Porto while Manchester United announced the signing of Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk this week.

It’s clear with these two signings that Mourinho is trying to improve upon the weaker areas of his squad.

And if he’s to continue in that trend, then a new centre-back will be imminent.

The Red Devils have been linked with a number of defenders and it was reported by the Manchester Evening News that Bayern Munich have set a £50 million asking price on Jerome Boateng.

It’s easy to get excited about the incomings but there will be players leaving Old Trafford this summer.

And one could be set for a remarkable move.

Mata could leave United

According to Dean Jones of Bleacher Report, progress has been made in a deal that would see Juan Mata sign for Barcelona.

With Andres Iniesta leaving and Antoine Griezmann choosing to sign a new contract to stay at Atletico Madrid, Mata has emerged as one of Barcelona’s top targets.

The Spanish midfielder has a reduced role at Man United and, at the age of 30, it would make sense for him to join a club where minutes are guaranteed.

But playing for Barcelona is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and nobody would be surprised if Mata decided to pursue it.

Mata is out of contract next year so Man United could choose to cash in this summer.

The former Chelsea man wouldn’t command a hefty fee but with a new defender and attacker wanted at Old Trafford, every little helps.

Man United fans have come to respect Mata for his charitable efforts and his wonderful personality.

He established Common Goal, an initiative which sees professional footballers donate a percentage of their salaries to football charities around the world.

A number of players have signed up, including Mats Hummels, Shinji Kagawa and Giorgio Chiellini.

Considering what he does off the pitch, Mata deserves to enjoy his remaining years as a player.

Signing for Barcelona represents an opportunity to compete for the biggest trophies in football.

It’s been six years since Mata won the Champions League with Chelsea and he’d love nothing more than to do so again.
