For lovers of football punditry, last month’s news that Frank Lampard had been appointed Derby County’s new manager was a shame. The Chelsea legend has impressed in his role as a pundit for BT Sport over the past year or two and it’s disappointing that he won’t be on our screens next season. However, Lampard deserves credit for stepping into the unforgiving world of football management. Punditry, by comparison, is an easy gig. Just ask Gary Neville.Lampard, like his former BT Sport colleague Steven Gerrard, is keen to try his hand at coaching and is confident that he has what it takes to succeed.Certainly, you will find fewer more erudite or harder-working former players than Lampard, who will do everything in his power to ensure he makes the most of this golden opportunity. Before pre-season starts, Lampard is busy working for BBC Sport out on Russia for the 2018 World Cup finals. He’s been excellent again over the first week of the tournament - arguably the best pundit on either BBC or ITV - and was on punditry duty once again on Saturday afternoon for the clash between Belgium and Tunisia.

The moment Lampard ended Marko Marin

However, viewers were left surprised by Lampard while the panel were discussing the reasons why Kevin De Bruyne failed to make it at Chelsea.

The former Chelsea midfielder reeled off the names of several players who were stood in De Bruyne’s way at Stamford Bridge before Didier Drogba reminded his former teammate about Marko Marin.

Lampard then turned around to Drogba and smirked while repeating Marin’s name, as if his old teammate had just told an amusing joke.

“Yeah!” Drogba replied, laughing. Clearly he felt that Marin’s name deserved a mention.

How viewers reacted on Twitter

Viewers immediately took to social media, with many of them laughing at Lampard’s savage reaction to Drogba mentioning Marin.

In case you don’t remember, Marin only made 13 appearances for Chelsea after joining the Blues in the summer of 2012.

Billed as the ‘German Messi’ by some prior to his move to west London, the one-time Germany international failed to live up the hype.

He was loaned out to Sevilla, Fiorentina, Anderlecht and Trabzonspor before finally leaving Chelsea permanently in 2016, when he signed a deal with Greek giants Olympiakos.

It’s fair to assume he won’t be best pleased if he sees this latest footage.
