Liverpool are being linked with a move for England striker Carlton Cole.

The 26-year-old forward has been linked with a move away from the Boleyn Ground for much of the summer, and Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson has emerged as the favourite to land the player.

A product of the youth academy at Chelsea, Cole would only play 25 league games for the Blues and signed for West Ham United in 2006 after three loan stints at different clubs.

At instant favourite with the Hammers, Cole has spent much of pre-season fighting for fitness as Avram Grant hopes to get the striker firing on all cylinders.

However, the Mail on Sunday reports that Hodgson is keen on the striker as he looks to find a partner for the currently not fully fit Fernando Torres.

Stoke City were also thought to be interested in the striker, although the signing of Kenwyne Jones appears to have ended any interest the Potters had in Cole.

Loic Remy is also said to be a target at Anfield, although Hodgson now appears to have switched his focus to a proven Premier League player.
