If there was one critical point of England's 2-1 win over Tunisia in their opening World Cup group game, it would be stupidly conceding a penalty when they were ahead.

Kyle Walker appeared to catch Fakhreddine Ben Youssef in the face as he let the ball travel across the box, the Man City man putting his arm in the air to stop the opposition attacker from getting past, an action former Three Lions star Rio Ferdinand described as 'criminal'.

Gareth Southgate has deployed Walker on the right-hand side of a back three, a position he isn't used to playing.

Some supporters are baffled that he wasn't playing his usual role of right-back when he's arguably the best in the Premier League in that position.

One man who's had his say on Walker is former long-serving Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

Since leaving the Gunners, Wenger has been pretty quiet but has taken a punditry role during the World Cup for sports broadcaster beIN Sports.

Wenger was pretty critical of Walker and would rather see another name fill the role that he's being asked to perform in.

"He's not really a defender, and especially not a central defender," Wenger told beIN Sports.

"He can be subject to make defensive mistakes what he would not pay for if he plays on the right.

"The sacrificed player nobody talks about who has played all the games before is [Eric] Dier, who's always played in every single game and since the start of the competition we have not seen him.

"He can play in the middle of centre-back, he can play in midfield as well and until now, I don't know why he has not been used at all."

Dier has been the forgotten man at this World Cup for England so far, so it's interesting to see a world-renowned manager such as Wenger would give him the nod.

If that particular reshuffle were to happen, there's no guarantee Walker would slot back into his regular right wing-back role, with Kieran Trippier's crosses from that position being key to Harry Kane's supply-line.

Needless to say though, if Walker keeps his place for England's final group game against Belgium, he will face his biggest test yet against the likes of Eden Hazard and Romelu Lukaku, should Roberto Martinez select them.
