Shawn Michaels is one of the few legends that has remained true to his word by refusing to come out of retirement, for now at least. Not even dream matches against Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles have been enough for him to dust off the tights and have one last dance in the middle of the ring.

COMEBACK

Throughout the week, however, The Heartbreak Kid has been more vocal than ever about making a return to WWE.

At first, the D-Generation X was seemingly misquoted when he supposedly claimed he's open to a return.

Instead, he cleared up what he meant by revealing who he would have liked to face in his prime, while admitting that the only match that truly makes sense is a tag team contest alongside Triple H against more than 40 possible opponents.

Considering Michaels has remained vocal about a possible comeback; naturally, fans are expecting that sooner or later we're going to see him inside of a WWE ring again.

When reporters caught up with Michaels and The Game at Royal Albert Hall on Monday ahead of the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament, Michaels had his final say on the matter.

Based on his comments, it sounds like a return is officially off the cards, so fans shouldn't live in the hope that something could come to fruition.

Michaels revealed that the anxiety and his age means it's a lot more hassle than a return is worth.

NO INTEREST

According to the Daily Express, he said: "I always try to explain it to people. If you could take me at the younger version and put me in the ring with one of those guys (NXT superstars) of course it would be a blast.

"But at the same time, I would also like to be the younger version of me and be in the ring with Harley Race and Buddy Rodgers. But none of those things can really happen in real life.

“To put me in a singles match at WrestleMania, I was always thrilled to do it but it’s very strenuous, it’s very anxious, there’s a lot that goes into it; the anxiety.

“Once you get in there, and especially when you’re done, it’s phenomenal but the getting ready for it is 100 per cent work and I don’t want to put myself or my family through that to go out there and try to steal the show at 52 for God’s sakes.

“So let's just say I did it and the match was phenomenal, the reality is this hairline is still what it is. It’s all out, and it’s sweaty. You're still gonna bust my chops because I've got no way not to expose to you that I'm 52.

“I don’t mean it in a bad way, but you want me to nip up and have everything look as if it was 1996 or '97 and that's never going to happen, because Father Time waits on no man.

“I don’t know, it just seems like more trouble than it’s worth.”

Michaels can't be knocked for his reasons.

He isn't getting any younger, and there's always the risk that his legacy can take a huge hit.

Not many stars can say they retired at WrestleMania after losing to The Undertaker.

So, perhaps now fans will come to terms with the fact that no amount of support behind a return movement can lure him back into action.
