Although the event is now in the books, several reports have emerged of the late changes WWE made to the Money in the Bank pay-per-view.

Perhaps the most significant amend the company made was removing Ronda Rousey from the main event spot in her RAW Women's Championship match against Nia Jax.

MONEY IN THE BANK

Instead, Braun Strowman's Money in the Bank victory ended up closing the show in Chicago, and for a very good reason.

According to the Wrestling Observer, the reason WWE decided to make that important change was so that the night had a 'happy ending.'

This is in comparison to Alexa Bliss hogging the limelight at the end as the villain, where she successfully cashed-in her Money in the Bank contract to leave as the new champion.

However, WrestlingNews.co has now revealed that this isn't the only change the WWE made in the lead-up to Money in the Bank last week.

Leading up to the event, the favourites for the men's ladder match continued to change on a daily basis.

As expected, The Miz was the leading candidate for quite a while, before Big E of the New Day emerged as a surprising and overwhelming favourite from nowhere.

Then, The Monster Among Men leapfrogged the competition and took home the briefcase.

CHANGE OF PLANS

Big E was randomly thrown in there as a favourite, though, as the source has revealed that Kofi Kingston wasn't originally supposed to feature in the ladder match.

Instead, the company decided just days before the event to remove Big E from the contest and place Kingston, but the reason as to why that significant change was made hasn't been revealed yet.

Several weeks before Money in the Bank, there was serious talk about Big E getting a massive push as a singles star, while keeping the New Day intact.

The source has also added that management believes Big E could eventually become a part of the top group of guys that can possibly rotate in and out of the WWE Championship picture.

Big E was featured in the gauntlet match on SmackDown LIVE earlier this week, with Rusev winning it all and getting a title opportunity against AJ Styles.

With WWE still planning a push for Big E, it's strange to see why he was removed from the Money in the Bank ladder match when it's the perfect platform to launch somebody into the main event scene.
