It really is now or never for Argentina on Tuesday evening.

The South American side have one last shot at redeeming themselves at the World Cup, with Nigeria the side looking to inflict the final blow.

After a 1-1 draw with Iceland a 3-0 humbling courtesy of Croatia, Argentina have to beat the Super Eagles.

If they do so, they should go through to the knockout stages, unless Iceland thump Croatia.

In the build-up to the game, Jorge Sampaoli's team selection will dominate the narrative and it seems obvious to everyone that he must make wholesale changes.

The inclusions of Max Meza, Enzo Perez and Marcos Acuna against Croatia had everyone baffled.

Perez can't even get a game for River Plate, with Ever Banega and Giovanni Lo Celso surely much better options.

But it seems the big change for the Nigeria game will be coming up top and it's certainly a controversial one.

As reported by the Mirror, Sampaoli will drop Sergio Aguero and replace him with Gonzalo Higuain.

Aguero is supposedly being punished for trying to challenge the manager, but he will be available as an option from the bench.

Given Aguero's relationship with Lionel Messi - they always share a room together on international duty - it's a very bold call from Sampaoli.

Paulo Dybala is also expected to be omitted from the team, with Perez also keeping his place - ridiculous, we know.

Willy Caballero will also be dropped, with Franco Armani replacing him.

It's all a bit chaotic and Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone perfectly summed up the serious issues with his country right now.

“The team is lost," he said. "What's happening to the team right now is what has happened to Argentina in these last four disgraceful years: anarchy, no leadership from the players, coaches or directors.”

Sampaoli's reign could come to an end this week.
