Uruguay have made their first big statement of the 2018 World Cup.The South American side done little to wow neutral fans with back-to-back 1-0 wins over Egypt and Saudi Arabia, particularly with their performance against the latter. But against the host nation Russia, Uruguay showed the world what they're all about.Talisman Luis Suarez scored a stunning free-kick to open the scoring early, before Diego Laxalt's long-range effort deflected in off Denis Cheryshev.Igor Smolnikov was shown a red card shortly before half-time, with Edinson Cavani then scoring in the last minute to secure a 3-0 win. They look like they will have a big say in the tournament and one of their stars was getting a lot of attention.Sampdoria's Lucas Torreira finally got a World Cup start, with the defensive midfielder set to sign for Arsenal after the tournament. And he really showed his qualities against the Russia forward line, marshalling the defence brilliantly and keeping his passing crisp. If he can perform like that for the Gunners, Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey will be jumping for joy.

ARSENAL FANS REACT

Russia's giant striker Artem Dzyuba couldn't get anywhere near the tiny midfield maestro.

Torreira looks like the player Arsenal have needed ever since the departure of Gilberto Silva - yes, it has been that long.

Gunners legend Lee Dixon heaped praise on the Uruguayan in commentary for ITV and it's hard not to think that the rumoured €30m fee for him will look like a bargain.

Unai Emery's transfer business has already been praised after the arrivals of Stephan Lichtsteiner and Bernd Leno.

If the Gunners bring in a capable centre-back as well, they could challenge for the top four once again.
