Spain have really not lit up the World Cup as of yet. After a thrilling 3-3 draw against Iberian rivals Portugal in their opening game, La Roja just about got past Iran 1-0 and had to settle for a 2-2 draw v Morocco. The result against the African nation was just enough to secure top spot in their group, meaning they will face hosts Russia in the last-16.Had Iago Aspas' late goal not been given courtesy of VAR, they'd have a date with Uruguay - a much more formidable foe.Fernando Hierro's side looked passive against Morocco, with Isco and Andres Iniesta the only two really showing their true class.Gerard Pique and Sergio Ramos were poor at the back, Sergio Busquets and Thiago Alcantara struggled in midfield and David De Gea looks lost in goal.He conceded two more and looks a pale shadow of the goalkeeping Goliath we've seen at Manchester United. And De Gea could be involved in one of the biggest team selection decisions from any manager at the World Cup.

AS journalist Joaquin Maroto - who knows Hierro very well and is in Spain's camp - has reported that De Gea could be dropped for Athletic Bilbao's Kepa for the Russia game.

And Hierro's bravery doesn't stop there, because he is also considering using Real Madrid's Nacho Fernandez as a central midfielder.

Yes, you did read that correctly.

A centre-back primarily, Nacho has already been used in this tournament in a more unnatural position, starting at right-back against Portugal.

However, he's played there before for Real Madrid, unlike in central midfield.

It doesn't specify who's place he would take, but given Busquets' reputation, you have to feel it would be Thiago being ousted.

Whether he will follow through with it is another matter, but the fact he is considering it highlights that things aren't going well in the Spain camp.

Maybe sacking Julen Lopetegui wasn't the greatest idea...
