The Los Angeles Lakers are expected to be the desired destination for many top free agents this summer due to their huge cap space that would allow them to sign two players to max deals.

Magic Johnson will be doing his best this summer to convince talent to come to Los Angeles to help the Lakers return to their former playoff glory in the Western Conference.

There are plenty of options for him to consider as well, as Cleveland Cavaliers' LeBron James and Oklahoma City Thunder's Paul George could all be unrestricted free agents in just a few days time.

As well as these two superstars, the Lakers could potentially trade with the San Antonio Spurs for Kawhi Leonard, who has already expressed a desire to move to Los Angeles this summer.

Very Excited

Shaquille O'Neal recently spoke to The Associated Press to promote the Kyrie Irving movie 'Uncle Drew'.  He spoke about a variety of different topics including the Lakers' free agency this year.

The Lakers legend stated that he would be 'very excited' if his team is able to sign both LeBron James and Kawhi Leonard this summer via free agency and trade respectively.

He said: "I just want the Lakers to be like they were back in the day. I want somebody that can beat Golden State. Golden State has turned into madness.

"The thing that would make me very excited is if LeBron James and Kawhi Leonard came to the Lakers.

"Then you’d have problems in the West. Then basketball would be fun again."

The Lakers would improve their position in the Western Conference hierarchy if they are able to sign by LeBron and Kawhi this summer, but there's no guarantee they would overthrow the Golden State Warriors.

Adding LeBron and Kawhi wouldn't automatically make the Lakers into an NBA powerhouse either, but it gives them a better chance of reaching the playoffs for the first time since the 2012-13 season.

Los Angeles will get a better idea on if they have a chance of signing James this summer later this week when the deadline of June 29 approaches for him to opt in or out of his current Cavs deal.
