As Marcos Rojo slammed in the winning goal for Argentina against Nigeria, Diego Maradona's celebrations told a thousand words.

The nation's former number 10 was understandably over-the-moon when the Manchester United centre-back netted to seal a last 16 clash with France.

But images of the two middle fingers to the fans below him stole all the headlines, England defender Kyle Walker in-particular posted a hilarious tweet to Dele Alli saying the insult was directed at him.

The news stories were all supposed to be about how Lionel Messi led his nation to the last 16 of the World Cup despite being bottom before defeating the Super Eagles.

Maradona however ended up stealing them - but for all the wrong reasons.

Rumours circulated following the match that Maradona had suffered from a heart attack after videos surfaced of him struggling up a flight of stairs into his private box.

But Maradona urged a journalist from Argentina to post voice messages on his Twitter account to confirm his version of events of what really happened.

“I swear on the lives of my mum, my grandson Benjamin and my son Dieguito Fernando’s life that nothing happened," Maradona told Daniel Arcucci, per the Daily Mirror.

“At the end of the first half we went to eat. I like red wine and there was white wine.”

Maradona also took to his official Instagram page to confirm that he was indeed alive and well, but claims he suffered from a 'decompensation'.

“I want to tell everyone that I am fine, that I am not, neither was I interned," Maradona posted.

“At half-time of the game against Nigeria, my neck hurt a lot and I suffered a decompensation.

“I was checked by a doctor and he recommended me to go home before the second half, but I wanted to stay because we were risking it all. How could I leave? I send a kiss to everyone, thanks for the support!”

Argentina's 1986 World Cup hero also sent a message to his partner, saying; “Hello my love. No heart attack, no injection, nothing.

“I don’t know where they’re getting it from that I had heart problems or I had to have an adrenaline shot.

"It’s 3am and we’re just getting back to Moscow without any problems. No alcohol or important story.”

They were worrying scenes at the time, but it's good to see the footballing legend is all well-and-good after previous health issues he's suffered with.
