There's a whole lot of excitement emanating out of Kansas City this offseason. That's because inside the Chiefs organisation, they know how special their new quarterback has the potential to be. Patrick Mahomes, entering his second season as a pro, will take over the starting mantle from the departed Alex Smith, and that's exactly how head coach Andy Reid and the rest of the hierarch inside Arrowhead stadium wanted things to go. Mahomes started just one game in 2017, a dead rubber affair in week 17 at the Broncos, and whilst he failed to throw a touchdown pass, the former Texas Tech signal caller put on a confident display inside a hostile stadium that has clearly instilled an enormous amount of optimism in his teammates and coaches. The Chiefs won that game 27-24, and one of Mahomes' former teammates couldn't help but be reminded of one of the NFL's greatest ever quarterbacks when practising against the impressive 22-year-old last season. Longtime former Chiefs pass rusher Tamba Hali has a fair bit of experience in dealing with quarterbacks. The 34-year-old, who is currently a free agent, has racked up a monstrous 89.5 sacks in his stellar career thus far and knows first hand just how good Mahomes is, and can be. Speaking Wednesday on NFL Network show Good Morning Football, Hali detailed his experience of practising against the Chiefs new QB1 and showered him in praise, even comparing him to Hall of Fame QB Brett Favre. "You're going to get a complete player," Hali saidl. "I mean, he's a smart player. He can throw the ball. Athletically, he's gifted. You don't have to coach it."In practice I'd watch him just look guys off. I mean, Eric Berry, you look him off and complete the ball. He did it to Marcus Peters a lot. So, people don't know what's coming. I don't want to hype him, but I compare him to Brett Favre. He runs around the field and he throws the ball and he's just having fun."The anecdotes about Mahomes staring off Eric Berry and Marcus Peters, two of the premier defensive backs in the NFL, and still completing his passes, put into perspective how special his arm talent is.

Clearly it's too early to suggest that Mahomes will follow a similar career trajectory to Favre, but he does have a bunch of similar traits including a cannon arm and a gunslinger mentality, and Hali believes that Andy Reid is the perfect man to get the most of out of the young QB.

"What's working for him is that he's with -- I believe -- the best coach in the league, Andy Reid," Hali added. "If you look at his staff, they've all gone out to be head coaches. Doug Pederson won the Super Bowl, so having Andy Reid as your playcaller is definitely going to help Patrick."

Times are exciting for Chiefs fans, and it appears the league should be prepared for an onslaught of Patrick Mahomes' brilliance in 2018.
