Somehow, Argentina are through to the last-16 of the World Cup.

Following their 1-1 draw with Iceland and their 3-0 defeat to Croatia, Jorge Sampaoli’s men looked as though they were heading for an early exit before their final group game.

There were reports of fights in the camp and that Sampaoli was no longer picking the side.

They were on the brink of disaster.

However, an 86th-minute winner from Marcos Rojo has changed everything.

But the murmurings continues over who is actually now in charge of this Argentina side.

That gathered momentum when a video went viral in the aftermath of the match showing a conversation between Sampaoli and Messi.

It shows the manager and Messi speaking in the second-half with football fans and journalists claiming that Sampaoli was actually asking Messi if he's going to bring on Sergio Aguero.

That would be remarkable if that was the case.

However, Spanish outlet Sport has revealed the ‘truth’.

They claim that Sampaoli was merely “informing him of the change.”

At that moment, Gonzalo Higuain and Messi were the front-two for Argentina and Sampaoli told the Barcelona star to drop deeper into a ‘number 10’ role because Aguero was coming on.

This allowed him to dictate play a bit more and give space to the incoming Aguero.

Aguero was eventually introduced in the 79th-minute and seven minutes later, they were heading through into the last-16 thanks to Rojo.

It seems Sampaoli is still very much in charge of this side.

Whether or not he can lead them to victory against France on Saturday afternoon remains to be seen...
