England are going into their final World Cup group stage match against Belgium with a bit of a dilemma.

They are currently level on points with Roberto Martinez’s side but ahead on their fair play record.

And every England fans is fully aware that finishing second in the group will mean they slot into the ‘easier’ side of the draw.

As a result, it seems Gareth Southgate is set to ring the changes to keep his players fresh for the knockout stages.

Ironically, considering the team leaks ahead of the clash with Panama, no-one really knows what Southgate is going to do against Belgium.

However, it seems most reports suggest that he is ready to make as many as six changes with Gary Cahill, Phil Jones, Eric Dier, Danny Rose, Fabian Delph and Jamie Vardy set to given their first starts of the tournament.

Some England fans may not agree with Southgate making so many changes.

Losing to Belgium might set England up with a nice passage to a possible final but it might also kill momentum.

NEVILLE REACTS TO THE CHANGES

However, Gary Neville has made a good point about the England boss making changes.

He’s insisted that just because Southgate is making changes, he doesn’t mean the England squad will be any worse off in terms of quality.

“A lot of people would have picked Rose to start with,” Neville said.

“The same with Vardy or Sterling – you look at it and think, actually Vardy will have more chance of a goal, he’s a threat and plays off the shoulder.

“So when you’re looking at these changes you’re not talking about players who are level below, you’re talking about lads of equal ability.”

Neville is right.

Just because Southgate is making a host of changes, it doesn’t mean that the XI is actually weakened.

It’s a different team, not a weaker one.
