England will play Colombia in Moscow on July 3 after losing 1-0 to Belgium in their final group match on Thursday night.Gareth Southgate made eight changes to the starting line-up that thrashed Panama 6-1 last weekend, leaving the likes of Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling and Dele Alli on the subs bench. The primary objective of both Southgate and his Belgium counterpart was abundantly clear: finish second in the group to avoid a potential World Cup quarter-final against Brazil. And it was England who managed to do just that, losing 1-0 after Adnan Januzaj curled home a delightful winning goal early in the second half.If England defeat Colombia next week - and that's a big *if* at this stage - they will face either Sweden or Switzerland in the quarter-finals.Southgate will revert to his strongest team against Colombia, which will mean a recall for Jordan Henderson in place of Eric Dier, who captained the team against Belgium.Henderson had impressed in England’s opening matches and was one of several players handed a rest ahead of the knockout stages.

Jenas blasts Dier for embarrassing moment v Belgium

This was Dier’s opportunity to prove that he should be starting for England next week - but the versatile Tottenham ace flattered to deceive.

BBC Sport handed the 24-year-old an unflattened 4/10 rating, adding: “Did nothing to press his claims for a place alongside Jordan Henderson. Off the pace and poor in possession. Game passed him by.”

Former Tottenham and England midfielder Jermaine Jenas, meanwhile, spotted a rather embarrassing moment from the stand-in skipper towards the end of the match against the Belgians.

Jenas called Dier out for standing and watching just outside the six-yard box while Belgium were trying to double their lead - and the footage is rather damning…

Don't expect that from an England captain

“This was towards the end of the game and I get that but the body language here is not very good - especially when you’re the England captain,” Jenas said.

“They’re about to score and he’s just standing there watching.”

There's no excuse for that. He should have been doing everything in his power to help England clear their lines - not just stand there and leave his teammates to it.

Jenas added: “He’s the type of midfielder that needs to play in a two, where he has somebody next to him.

“He played in a system where [Fabian] Delph is a little bit higher and [Ruben] Loftus-Cheek is a little bit higher, so he has to cover a lot more ground.

“He was lethargic today. I hate to say, he looked heavy in his legs. Struggled to get around the pitch. He hasn’t played for four weeks and it showed.”
