With the NFL season drawing ever nearer, this year's crop of top rookie quarterbacks are beginning to find more opportunities to compete.

Training camp is around the corner and they will now be deep into their new playbooks, refining their new offenses, and working on their fundamentals.

Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold and Josh Rosen, the top three signal callers selected in the 2018 draft, will certainly be looking to put on a better showing in camp than they did at a league event last month too.

The young trio of exciting passers all appeared at the NFLPA's Rookie Premiere back in May, where the were joined by Steelers receiver Juju Smith Schuster.

The dynamic wideout interviewed the QB's before starting an impromptu passing accuracy competition between them and himself, and it made for ugly viewing.

Mayfield, Allen and Darnold were at the event to take part in a variety of media and group activities, but clearly the passing challenge took centre stage.

Watch from 4:08 into the video to see the trio struggling to throw the ball through one of two tyre targets, before Allen finally prevails after nearly two and a half minutes of consecutive attempts between them.

Smith Schuster, for one, was revelling in the fact that none of them could seem to make the throw, but it is slightly worrisome given their lofty draft statuses.

“It’s crazy you have all these top quarterbacks out here in this draft, and you cannot hit one of these holes,” Smith-Schuster jibed at the rookies. “Like, what are we doing. C’mon now. If they’re gonna pay you millions of dollars to hit ONE TYRE?!?!”

Allen eventually hits the target a few times, in a slightly surprising outcome given he was the one entering the draft process with huge concerns about his accuracy as a passer.

“Our winner is Josh Allen, easy W,” Smith-Schuster said. “He hit it in like two, three times. Sam Darnold, Baker tried to come back but didn’t. And that’s it, man.”

Sure, there wasn't any pressure on him from big, fast defensive linemen, but Allen showed poise under pressure whilst competing against his biggest rivals for offensive rookie of the year so that should be a small sign of encouragement for Bills fans.

The number seven overall pick completed just 56% of his passes at Wyoming, and he'll need to make enormous strides in that department in a short space of time this offseason if he's to beat out AJ McCarron for the starting job in Buffalo.
